Employee-Initiated Reduction In Time Program (ERIT) Program

ERIT

UC ANR Recognizes the importance of helping employees manage a work/life balance, including providing opportunities for flexible work schedules and reduced time appointments through programs like ERIT. The Employee-initiated Reduction In Time (ERIT) Program is an optional tool that locations may choose to implement as a cost-savings and workplace flexibility resource. The ERIT Program provides an opportunity for employees to voluntarily reduce their current appointment percentage and corresponding pay so that the university can achieve temporary salary savings and provide employees an option to seek work-life balance.

Employees may, with the approval of their department, reduce their working hours and corresponding pay between 5 and 50 percent. ERIT participants, who must remain on pay status at least 50 percent of full-time each month while on ERIT, continue to accrue vacation and sick leave at their pre-ERIT accrual rate.

For departments that choose to participate in ERIT, an employee may request the department head's approval to voluntarily reduce working time, within specific limits, from a minimum of one month to a maximum of 36 months. Exclusively represented employees are eligible for ERIT if their applicable union has agreed to participate in the program.
