Sudden Oak Death
Janice Alexander, Program Coordinator
Delivering science and management solutions for sudden oak death
We worked in collaboration with the California Oak Mortality Task Force to plan, organize, and host the Fourth Sudden Oak Death Science Symposium. Over 200 researchers, policy makers, and land managers from seven countries and 18 states participated in this major international conference including three days of presentations, posters, discussions, and field trips.
Our Sudden Oak Death Coordinator delivered information to over 450 people at smaller workshops and presentations in Marin.
Additionally, we prepared field trips for researchers from Imperial College, London, comparing public reactions to Dutch Elm Disease in England with reactions to Sudden Oak Death in California. The tour and visit in Marin included meetings with the Agricultural Commissioner’s office, Marin Municipal Water District, and National Park Service, among others.
Our Sudden Oak Death coordination and outreach efforts were featured in the article, Science-based outreach helps stem sudden oak death,in California Agriculture.
