Group Menu

This guide outlines how to add, edit, and manage group menus within Drupal. Group menus allow for structured navigation, helping users find relevant content more easily.

Navigation Process

  1. Login to IWP and click My Account
    1. Refer to Logging In Document for more instructions.
  2. Choose the group you want to add content to.
  3. Click on the Group Menus tab to manage the group’s menu.

Adding a Menu Link

  1. In the Group Menus tab, click Add Menu Link to start adding a new link.
  2. Fill in Menu Link Details:
    • Menu Link Title: Enter the title for the menu link (e.g., "Home"). This text will be used as the label for the menu item.
    • Link Path:
      • For better navigation, use the path or full URL rather than manually searching. Copy the path from the content type or node you’re linking to and paste it here for accuracy.
      • Avoid using the Group Menus tab alone for search—add the link directly within the content editor or node where possible, and refine in Group Menus if needed.
    • Visible Checkbox: Check this box if you want the menu link to be visible in the group menu. If left unchecked, the link will be hidden.
  3. Parent Link:
    • Organize links within a hierarchy by assigning a Parent Link. For example, placing "About Us" under "Home."
    • To simplify organization, add the menu link from within the content editor on the page itself and later refine in the Group Menus tab if needed.
  4. Menu Link Weight:
    • Use the Weight field to control the order of links. Lower weights appear higher in the menu. You can hide row weights if preferred.
  5. Expanded View Option:
    • Check the Show as Expanded option if you want the link to always show its child links when the menu is displayed.
  6. Description:
    • Add a brief description of the link, which will appear when users hover over the menu item.
  7. Click Save to create the new menu link.
  8. After saving the link, click Save Group Menu to confirm all changes.

Add Link from Content Type

  1. Go to the specific page or content type where you want to add the menu link.
  2. Copy the path from this content (e.g., /group/12345) for easy navigation.
  3. Add Link to Menu:
    • Use the Group Menus tab to paste this path directly into a new or existing menu.
    • This method ensures smooth navigation and prevents the need for extensive manual searches.

Editing a Group Menu

  1. On the group's page, click the Group Menus tab to see a list of existing group menus.
  2. Find the menu you want to edit and click Edit Menu next to it.
  3. Edit or Remove Links:
    • Click Edit next to a link to modify the title, URL, Parent Link, or Weight.
    • Click Delete to remove a link.
  4. Rearrange Menu Links:
    • To reorder links within a menu, use the drag-and-drop feature to adjust the position of links. Nested (child) links can be reordered under parent links. Be sure to Save the changes after rearranging the links.
  5. Menu Weight:
    • Drag and drop links to reorder within the menu. Use the Parent Link feature to nest child links under parent links.
  6. After making edits, click Save to finalize the menu structure.

Hierarchy of Menu Links

  • Parent Link Structure: Set a Parent Link to organize links into a clear hierarchy, making navigation intuitive.
  • Drag-and-Drop: Arrange links by dragging them into the desired order. Child links appear as nested items under parent links.
  • Menu Weight: Fine-tune link order by adjusting weights; lower weights appear higher in the list.

Additional Features and Tips

  • Content Moderation:
    • If the site uses content moderation, changes made to the menu may need approval from another user before they are visible.
