The Eastern Sierra is a challenging place to garden, in large part due to our climate. Our climate generally features:
- Low humidity
- Windy conditions
- Very cold fronts that move through
- Extreme daily temperature fluctuation
- Long frost season
- High light intensity
Elevation and location can greatly influence microclimate.
Information on average temperatures, including hardiness, can be found here.
California's CIMIS system maintains weather stations used to predict irrigation needs in Bishop (#35), Keeler (#183), and Olancha (#189). You will need to get a free account with them, but you will have access to high-quality weather data from their stations.
