Trials Using Mature Trees
Assessment of Polymer Film Efficacy on Mature Trees
Parallel to the containerized trials, the efficacy of polymer and menthene products as plant-protectants are being assessed experimentally on exposed, inoculated, leaf scars on mature Manzanillo trees.
In April 2011, twenty leaf scars were exposed by manual leaf removal on sixteen branches per tree, to allow for a full compliment of treatments on individual tree reps.
A single protectant treatment was applied to two branches on each tree, and each treatment was challenge inoculated with two inoculum levels: 104 and 108 cfu/ml and each branch will be treated with a single protectant treatment. Inoculum was composed of a cocktail of 9 P. savastanoi isolates collected from the UC Davis campus.
