Building my Pig Pen By Ryker Mattia, Miners Ravine 4-H Community Club

My name is Ryker and this is my first year in the Miners Ravine 4-H Club swine project.  I have been attending my swine project meetings, my leader Mark Karthouser is very nice.  He came to our house so we could show him the location where we wanted to build my pig enclosure.  He gave us pointers on what materials we should use and what materials we should avoid.

My dad and I are building my pig enclosure.  So far, we got on the tractor and smoothed out the dirt.  Then, I cut some low branches from the weeping willow tree that is located nearby.  I helped my dad dig the holes for the fence posts and helped him pour concrete in the holes.  We tied the fencing to the poles. My dad and I cut wood to form concrete and I did all of the metal bar tie-wiring.  My dad and I worked together to pour the concrete and I got to put my hand prints in the concrete next to my dad's hand prints, too.

Next, We are going to build the pig house.  I am excited about building my pig enclosure with my dad.  We have fun working together.  I love my dad and thank him for letting me raise a pig for 4-H.
