Hi, my name is Myrna Cadena, and I am PhD student in the Animal Biology graduate group at the University of California, Davis. Thank you for your interest in my survey. This survey is for my PhD research. Additionally, the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and UC Davis Vet Med Cooperative Extension will use the information collected to design and execute outreach programs related to disease prevention.

network
Goal
Participation in this survey will help advance our knowledge of the live poultry movement in California (see below for an example of a network). This information will be crucial in the event of a poultry disease outbreak. For example, if we know what counties have a large number of chickens coming in and out, then we can be strategic on where to allocate outreach resources. For example, the data collected could help us determine where to hold biosecurity workshops or distribute vaccines.

About the survey
There are 3 main sections:
1. About your flock
2. Biosecurity practices
3. Live bird movement (county-level information)
  • Purchasing and trading
  • Selling
  • General movement (e.g. Livestock fairs)
Confidentiality
Please note we are a university, not a regulatory agency and therefore our focus is on outreach and education and not regulation and enforcement. All answers will be confidential and will only be used for research and outreach.

Time
It will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.
