Online Beekeeping Course

The University of California Cooperative Extension-San Diego County has developed this self-paced online training course for beginning beekeepers and as a refresher annual training for experienced beekeepers with hives located in unincorporated areas of San Diego County.

The course consists of three modules and a 10-question quiz survey, which may be taken separately. The entire course is approximately 30 minutes long.

To begin the course, click the button below and wait a moment for the course to load in your Internet browser. If you are using Internet Explorer®, use the 'Direct Links,' below. Once started, you will be able to move through the training using the forward or back arrows located at the bottom left and right of your screen. You may also move back and forth through the course using the slide navigation panel on the left. Note, module 2 includes videos. Depending on your Internet connection, you may need to wait a few moments for each video to load on-screen.

At the end of the training, you will be provided a link to the quiz survey. You may also access the quiz, directly, by clicking the button or direct link below. To begin the survey, you will be required to enter your first and last names and email address. Your information and quiz results will be recorded.1 A summary of your quiz results will be provided at the end. To keep a copy of your quiz results for your own records, you may print using your computer's print-screen function.

This online training and quiz meet the County of San Diego beekeeping training requirement on the BMP checklist as stipulated in the County Ordinance on Bees and Apiaries, County of San Diego Ordinance No. 10393, Chap. 9, Div. 2 of Title 6, § 62.911 (2015).

Important Note: Although a $10.00 registration fee is mentioned in the course for those with ten or more hives, currently no apiary registration fees are being charged pending a regulatory update.
