Top Plants For Sonoma County
Huge genus with much variation. Virtually all suitable for Bay Area.
From low, creeping and drapy stems to tall stout mounds—all sedums are fleshy leaved and succulent. Smaller species make excellent container plants and accents among rocks or along border edgings. Mid-sized types with wiry stems usually flop into tangled mounds but are valued for rich green or bluish purple colors. Tall sedums grow from basal clumps and often need staking. Cut stems to the ground after flowers fade. All types benefit from summer irrigation and excellent winter drainage.
