1-B. Science Session
Youth Scientific Literacy Across ANR
This session will begin with a presentation by Dr. Tom Pickerell, Senior Science Manager for Seafood Watch, the sustainable seafood program at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Dr. Pickerell will link his talk to topics and issues discussed during the Global Food Systems Forum and “connect the dots” relative to youth scientific literacy, involved citizenship, and workforce preparedness. This will be followed by “lightning talks” given by ANR personnel highlighting work UC ANR is doing to address youth scientific literacy, and short presentations on two Revolution of Responsibility projects that involve 4-H youth engaged in service learning efforts related to UC ANR strategic initiatives. The session will conclude with a short panel discussion.
