UC ANR Strategic Initiatives
Making a Difference in California
Rising to the Challenge. Our five Strategic initiatives (SIs) bring the power of science to deliver practical solutions to help California. The work addresses challenges, such as fire, water shortages, safe food, urban pests, college readiness and poor nutrition. (See PDF on Focal Areas and Grand Challenges)
Public Value. The work of the SIs helps build our state economy, protect our natural resources, build our people and communities and ensures we have safe food. See Public Value Statements for more.
Partnerships are key. Our Strategic Initiatives help unify, communicate and advocate for the work we do; bringing together partners from the

with a range of collaborators from the private and public sectors.
The SIs are the umbrellas for our Workgroups and Program Teams.
