A Chinese translation of “Food Safety at Farmers Markets and Agritourism Venues” is now available from the University of California Small Farm Program.

The 36-page primer provides a basic guide to understanding food safety issues relevant to California Certified Farmers Markets and agritourism operations. The handbook can also be useful as a resource for educating employees about food safety concerns and regulations.

The original text was written by Desmond Jolly and Chris Lewis, and published in 2005 by the UC Small Farm Center. The publication was translated into traditional Chinese characters for a series of workshops aimed at a community of ethnic Chinese growers on California’s Central Coast. The workshops were organized by Aziz Baameur, small farm advisor for Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties.

The text was translated primarily by Joanne Zhao, a UC Davis student who hails from the area’s farming community. The translation is available online at http://ucanr.org/foodsafety_chi.pdf. A limited number of printed translation copies are also available free of charge from the UC Small Farm Center.
