Field trips will follow the webinar series.
The University of California and the Northern California Society of American Foresters will host a series of online presentations and field trips for people who are passionate about their local forests. The Community Forest Webinar Series runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on April 7, 13, 20 and 27. Field trips have been scheduled for May 7 to the Usal Forest near Fort Bragg, May 15 in Weaverville, May 28 to the Arcata Forest in Arcata and June 25 to Tahoe-Donner Forest near Truckee. Community forests are forested lands that are managed to produce valued resources, such as lumber, clean water, wildlife habitat and recreation. The webinar series will present an overview of community forestry as it is currently being practiced in California. The intended audience is natural resource managers, environmental and forest activist groups, residents of forested regions who might benefit from a community forest approach in their areas and the general public concerned with forest management. Funding support for the program was provided by the USDA Forest Service and the University of California. To participate, register on the program website, http://ucanr.org/community_forests. Each registrant will receive a follow-up email with the URL for logging into the webinars. Several sites for group viewing of the webinar are being established at Resource Conservation District and UC Cooperative Extension facilities. Topics to be covered during the webinars are: April 7
