When it comes to controlling insects and other agricultural pests, there’s nothing better than using natural enemies to do the job for you! Using beneficial insects as part of an integrated pest management program (IPM) helps control infestations while lowering the use of pesticides and preserving the environment.
This month’s educational opportunity at the UC Hansen Agricultural Center will feature Brett Chandler, President and General Manager of Associates Insectary. Associates Insectary, located in Santa Paula, is the oldest commercial insectary in the United States.
On Saturday, June 25 from 10:00 to 11:30 am Mr. Chandler will present: Beneficial Insects, Big Results—Minimal Impact and lead a garden tour to identify beneficial bugs. Learn about the unique world of rearing insects and their use in agriculture.
University of California IPM resources, designed for the home gardener, will also be shared.

Not interested in IPM, but would like to spend some time at the UC Hansen Ag Center? They will be open on to the public June 25th from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The historic Faulkner Farm House will be open for tours and UC Master Gardeners will hold a plant sale. If you wish to participate in these activities, no reservation is required.
