Search for Excellence

Search for Excellence (SFE) is a statewide competition designed to recognize outstanding UC Master Gardener Programs for projects that support the mission of University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Master Gardeners.

The SFE awards is an opportunity to celebrate and showcase the tremendous talents of UCCE Master Gardeners from across the state. UCCE Master Gardeners are invited to submit an educational and innovative county project for consideration April 1 – July 1, 2014.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the three highest scoring entries among seven categories:

  1. Youth programs
  2. Demonstration gardens
  3. Workshop, presentation or hands-on programs
  4. Community service
  5. Innovative projects
  6. Special audiences, senior/disabled or horticulture therapy
  7. Research, applied scientific methodology

Educating the public should be the focus of the entries, which will be judged by a team of experts selected from throughout the state.  Top three top winners will present at the 2014 UC Master Gardener Conference. 

All applicants, regardless of award status are encouraged to submit a poster for display at the conference. Winners announced Sept. 1, 2014.
