CWSS weed research reports

Jul 5, 2011

This week we are finalizing plans for the 55th Annual UC Davis Weed Day on July 14th.  It's not too late to register if you are interested in a sampling of the current weed science research at UCD!  More info and registration information on Weed Day can be found here:  http://wric.ucdavis.edu/events/weed_day_2011.htm

We've been busy this getting the agenda finished, spraying a few last herbicide treatments, and working out the many logistic details (thanks Gale P. for her focus on logistics!).  I was thinking about what (and when) I'd post on the blog this week and, voila, the California Weed Science Society newsletter came in my email to save the day.

This this issue (available here: http://www.cwss.org/PDF/CWSS_4th_edition.pdf) has several well-written informational and research articles including:

John Roncoroni (UCCE Napa County) has an article on "Weeds in one-two acre vineyard irrigation ponds",

David Blodget (SePRO Corp) writes about "Characteristics and modes of action of aquatic herbicides",

Michel Blankinship (Blankinship & Assoc.) explains "The ever changing California national pollutant dischard elimination system (NPDES) aquatic pesticide permit",

Steve Tjosvold (UCCE Santa Cruz Co.) and Richard Smith (UCCE Monterey Co.) present some research information on "Alternative roadside weed control in Santa Cruz County", and

Richard Smith (UCCE Monterey Co.)  and Steve Fennimore (UC Extension Weed Specialist)
discuss spinach weed control in their article "Spinach weed control: where have we been and where are we now?"
