THE POSITION
The incumbent will, under general supervision, climb and trim trees; perform cutting, felling and other phases of tree removal work; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
Incumbents of this position are responsible for performing a variety of tasks necessary for the trimming, care and removal of trees and have lead responsibility over a small crew. The Tree Trimmer-Climber classes report to the Field Maintenance Supervisor and are found only in the Public Works Agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Either I
The equivalent of two years full-time experience in the class of Laborer or an equivalent or higher class working on tree crews or doing various types of work associated with trees in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney's Office, Hospital Authority and the Consolidated Courts.)
Or II
The equivalent of two years full-time experience in trimming and caring for trees, including experience in climbing.
License: Possess and maintain a valid California Motor Vehicle Class B Driver's License. Candidates must submit evidence from the DMV showing current status of their license at the time of application and must have a clean driving record for the previous three-year period.
Certificate: Possession of Certified Tree Worker or Certified Arborist status as issued by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA).

- Proper maintenance of tree trimming tools and equipment.
- Safety rules and practices in tree removal and trimming work.
- Traffic control and safety.
- ISA pruning, trimming and removal methods.
- Work at a considerable height above the ground.
- Climb trees using ropes and climbing gear rigging with skill and confidence.
- Use and maintain tree-trimming tools and equipment with skill and safety.
- Operate and use a hydraulic boom truck and various tools used in tree trimming work.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Deal and respond effectively with the public's requests and concerns.
- Leads a small crew (2-3 people).
- Communicate effectively orally.
- Communicate effectively in writing, write clear and concise reports.
- Use good judgment in decision making.
- Tree Trimmer-Climbers are subject to 24 hours call out.
- Tree Trimmer-Climbers are subject to work in all weather conditions.
- Tree Trimmer-Climbers are subject to work in all noise levels and high traffic areas.
- Tree Trimmer-Climbers are subject to work near overhead utilities.
