Users can improve comprehension of content by turning on CC - Closed Captions, Subtitles in your native language, or by viewing transcipts of the video, during or after viewing a video.

Users can improve the visual experience of Closed Captions and Subtitles by adjusting font / text / background attributes.

Open Captions:
Are embedded in the actual video and can't be turned off. Open Caption example
Closed Captions:
Are generated either automatically or manually, and can be turned on or off. Closed Caption Example
Subtitles:
Translated subtitles help improve your experience by seeing content in your native language.
Transcripts:
Auto generated from Captions or can be manually created.

Closed Captioning

Users can turn on Closed Captioning for many videos on YouTube. There are however some videos that do not have Closed Captioning enabled, and Users will not be able to see CC.

When a User views a video, they can click on the CC Icon to turn on Closed Captions.

Subtitles

With Closed Captions On, Translate to a different Language by:

  1. Click on Gear.
  2. Click on Sub Titles / CC
  3. Click on default language (Auto Generated)
  4. Click on Auto Translate, and choose the language of your choice.

Change styling of the Sub Titles / CC

  1. Click on the CC,
  2. Click on Gear
  3. Click on Sub Titles / CC
  4. Click on Options
  5. Now you can choose background and text color, font-size, font-family, opacity of text, opacity of background, etc
