NatureFest 2018

 

The UC Hopland Research and Extension Center will be hosting it's 3rd annual bioblitz and nature celebration on April 27 and 28. During this time we will have a variety of talks and opportunities for you to get outside and discover all the species that we share our site with! 

Complete the below registration to select the events that you would like to attend, or purchase the "NatureFest Package" to support our educational work and join us for them all! 

This is a family friendly event, some of the talks might be of more interest to certain ages - take a look at the description for each talk to understand which ones are most appropriate to you.

Friday April 27th, 6-9pm: 
NatureFest Opening Celebration
 Locally sourced dinner and "Bear Essential? The Past, Present, and Potential Future of Grizzlies in California" 

A talk by Dr. Peter Alagona associate professor of history, geography, and environmental studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Author of “After the Grizzly: Endangered Species and the Politics of Place in California.”

Saturday April 28th, 7-9am: 
Birdwatching
with Peregrine Audubon Society

Bob Keiffer and Chuck Vaughn share their vast knowledge of local bird life on this early morning hike. This event is suitable for older children and adults who are happy to walk and watch quietly and keenly! Bring your binoculars - limited pairs will be available to borrow from Hopland REC.

Saturday April 28th, 10am-11am: 
Spiders and Scorpions
with Lauren Esposito (California Academy of Sciences)

Join Lauren Esposito, PhD, of the California Academy of Sciences to learn more about some of the creepy crawlies we often try to avoid! This talk and field session will begin at the Rod Shippey Hall and then explore outside to find some of these fascinating arachnids. Suitable for all ages.

Saturday April 28th, 12pm-4pm: 
Bioblitz for ALL
with the California Conservation Corps and expert volunteers

Meet entomologists, botanists and a host of other scientists and naturalists on a short exploration of the UC Hopland Research and Extension Center. Help to discover and identify as many species as possible and share your findings via smart phone using iNaturalist
Suitable for all ages, however the trail we will be using is not appropriate for strollers.

The Real Sarahs and Gwyneth Moreland

Relax and recap with refreshments to the spellbinding harmonies of these incredible folk singers.
