Event Details

The Program:  Do you enjoy hiking? Do you like plants and puzzles? Then this activity is for you! Join UC Marin Master Gardener Kam Shadan as he leads a trail hike from the gate to Phyllis Ellman in Corte Madera to Turtle Rock at the top of Ring Mountain (elevation 460 ft) and back down through the loop (2+ miles). A plant puzzle handout is given to each participant; you will find the answers to the puzzle through observations during the hike. This hike will also focus on the history of Ring Mountain, and wild flowers when in season.

Participants need to be comfortable to hike hills. Wear layered clothing, hiking shoes/boots with good traction and water are a must. No shorts due to abundant poison oak. Hiking poles are recommended. There are no bathroom facilities on the hiking trail. The hike may be cancelled if the ground is too wet due to recent rain or if the Saturday night forecast predicts rain on Sunday morning.

The Speaker: Kam Shadan is a UC Marin Master Gardener. Having lived and explored the outdoors in Marin, especially Tiburon and as a former Angel Island State Park docent, Kam has gained knowledge of the area’s natural environment including Ring Mountain, Mount Tamalpais and Angel Island. Kam enjoys community building and self-realization through learning and sharing Marin County's natural and cultural treasures through outdoor activity offerings.

Location: Meet at the North access gate to the Phyllis Ellman Trail. From Hwy 101 in Corte Madera, take the exit for Tamalpais Drive east. Go straight onto San Clemente, which merges into Paradise Dr after 0.4 miles. Follow Paradise Drive approximately 1 mile (go past Westward Drive). The gate is on the right. We meet at the Gate.
