Are you an urban farmer learning the ins and outs of growing and harvesting crops? This special one-day workshop on Friday, July 28 from 9 am to 4 pm is designed to guide urban farmers through common production challenges. Participants will learn to:
- Improve soil quality for healthier crops;
- Use the tenets of IPM (Integrated Pest Management) to identify and manage insect pests;
- Keep weeds from taking off and taking over;
- Use water more efficiently on the farm.
We’ll be hosted by Cal Poly Pomona, and as part of the day, we’ll learn about their new Urban Agriculture Program and tour the farm at Cal Poly’s Agriscapes.
The cost is $20, which includes a resource packet, refreshments, and lunch. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited, so reserve your spot now!
This is the second in a series of four Los Angeles County workshops that will be held on 7/21, 7/28, 8/4, and 8/11, covering additional urban agriculture topics. Information and registration for all four workshops can be found at http://ucanr.edu/UrbanAgSeriesLA1.
