Basic Composting for the Home Gardener

Are you interested in turning your garden waste and kitchen scraps into a rich soil conditioner and fertilizer for your garden?  Are you interested in saving money on fertilizers and reducing work in your backyard?  Composting is a simple way to create nutrient-rich humus that fuels plant growth and restores vitality to depleted soil.  It's free, easy to make, and good for the environment.

Basic composting will teach you how to turn your garden waste and kitchen scraps into sweet-smelling organic soil conditioner by starting a compost pile, adding the best ingredients, and nurturing the decomposition process. We will cover how composting works, compost containers, what and what not to compost, techniques to encourage decomposition, avoiding issues when composting, and where and when to use your compost.

There will be time for questions and answers after the presentation.  No charge.

The San Ramon Library is at 100 Montgomery Street, at the corner of Bollinger Canyon and Marketplace. For more information, please call 925-973-2850 or visit ccclib.org/locations/sanramon.html for directions.
