Biography

David Benterou is a research associate assisting UCANR's Fire Network Central Coast and Southern Sierra UCCE offices. David is passionate about community fire management, and combining ecological and cultural benefits of prescribed fire use. David conducted his MS thesis research through the San Jose State University (SJSU) Wildfire Interdisciplinary Research Center (WIRC) to identify ecological and structural factors most influential for residential compliance with defensible space and home hardening requirements for fire-prone communities in California's Santa Cruz Mountains, Sierra Nevada Foothills, and Sierra Crest. Prior to his graduate education, David was a science educator and director for a youth outdoor science program in the Santa Cruz Mountains redwood forests.
