Registration for our 2017 Junior Counselors and Adult Staff are now open! Go to http://ucanr.edu/sites/SJC_4H/Events_and_Calendar/4-H_Camp/How_to_Register/ for information on how to register; the deadline for Junior Counselors is January 15th.
Our team of Junior Counselors (JCs) runs our entire 5-day 4-night camp program at beautiful Silver Lake. They lead various outdoor activities, run evening programs such as campfire and dances, and supervise cabins of campers. It a great chance to develop leadership skills while having fun in the great outdoors!
The requirements to become a JC are:
- Must be between the ages of 14-19 as of 12/31/16.
- Must be enrolled and have at least 80% attendance in a Leadership Development Project. If your club does not offer this project, please contact Ariel at amclay@ucanr.edu
- Be a current member in good standing with your 4-H club.
- Have the ability to work with minimal supervision and seek advice or assistance when needed.
- Possess leadership abilities, responsibility skills, and good self-esteem.
- Must maintain enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control.
- Displays appropriate behavior and understands what it takes to be a positive role model.
- Possesses the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
Junior Counselors are also expected to undergo training in the months leading up to camp. The training schedule will be announced in January, but for now JC applicants should expect that these mandatory meetings will take place in March and April.
