SFE Prizes
Looking to showcase the amazing projects happening in your county? Every three years the UC Master Gardener Program hosts a Search for Excellence (SFE) competition looking to recognize projects that exemplify the incredible impacts programs are making across the state. SFE is the perfect opportunity to have projects recognized and rewarded. This year the stakes have been raised and the prizes are bigger than ever before!  

SFE Award Amounts: 

  • 1st place = $1,500 GRAND PRIZE
  • 2nd place = $1,000 
  • 3rd place = $500 

Search for Excellence Categories: 

SFE has seven categories in which UC Master Gardener Programs can demonstrate their outstanding contributions to their local communities. 

  1. Community service
  2. Demonstration garden
  3. Innovative project
  4. Research (applied scientific methodology)
  5. Special needs audiences (senior, disabled or horticultural therapy)
  6. Workshop or presentation
  7. Youth program

Guidelines and criteria governing submissions for the 2017 UC Master Gardener Conference apply to the International Master Gardener SFE competition. Projects selected as previous winners in the UC Master Gardener SFE awards are ineligible. A panel of judges selected from across the state will review and score all qualifying and complete submissions. Deadline for application extended to May 12, 2017.
