Human Subjects Protocol Resources

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is responsible for oversight of research involving human participants. The IRB determines if projects require more rigorous review and if the protocols outlined are sufficient to protect research participants' safety and confidentiality. UCCE Advisors apply to the UC Davis IRB for any research that involves collecting data from people.

Update for 2024: UCCE applications to the UC Davis IRB must list Brent Hales, Associate Vice-President for Research and Extension, as the "Department Head" in the application interface, IRBNet. Please build in two weeks for AVP Hales to review and sign off on your application.

Trainings

New to the process of applying to the UC Davis IRB or need a refresher? Join the workshop, Navigating the IRB, via zoom on September 24, 2024. It's part of the Tuesday morning training sessions on UCCE Program Development and Evaluation Capacity Building.

All researchers listed on a UC Davis IRB application must complete an online course, IRB Research Training – Basic/Refresher Course through Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI).

In order to submit an application to UC Davis IRB you need to complete the UC Davis CITI training. You the follow the steps below.

  8. Additional user information requested by UC Davis:
    • Only required to complete fields with an asterisk
    • For email, I provided my UC Davis email so they know I have one
    • For “What is your role in research” you may want to select “data manager” unless you see a better fit.
