- European hybrid dating from 1858 AKA Horse Chestnut
- Deciduous with large palmate (palm) shaped leaves with 3 to 4 leaflets
- Long bright red fragrant flowers clustered 5” to 8” long in spring
- Needs at least 5’ square clear area when planted and can grow to 40 feet tall
- Seeds in rough husk (sort of like buckeye) are poisonous
