Early registration for California Naturalist Conference ends June 30


Asilomar Conference Grounds is adjacent to the beautiful rocky shoreline of Asilomar State Beach.
Discounted early registration fees for the 2014 California Naturalist Conference will end June 30.

The event is the first-ever biennial conference of the UC Cooperative Extension California Naturalist Program, which recruits and trains naturalists to form a statewide corps of active and educated environmental stewards. The conference is Oct. 17-19 at Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, Calif.

Early registration is $250 for certified naturalists and $325 for all others. On July 1, registration increases to $300 for certified naturalists and $375 for all others. Lodging is separate. Registration fees are higher for those not staying two nights at Asilomar. Conference and Asilomar accommodation reservation forms are available on the California Naturalist Conference website, http://ucanr.edu/CalNat2014.

The conference provides a forum for presenting and discussing new research and developments in natural history, stewardship, citizen science, environmental education, interpretation and practice for addressing California's conservation challenges. Conference events begin Friday, Oct. 17, with advanced training opportunities and an opening welcome reception. Events on Saturday, Oct. 18, include a full day of concurrent talks on global change and biodiversity and people, parks, and diversity, plenary talks with noted naturalists, dinner reception, and poster presentations. Field trips are planned for Sunday. 

Among the acclaimed conference speakers are naturalist and author John Muir Laws, citizen science authority Mary Ellen Hannibal, and UC Berkeley professor and global warming expert Anthony Barnosky.
