Biography

Dr. Christopher Shogren is an environmental horticulture advisor for UC Cooperative Extension in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. As an advisor, he provides expertise in pest management of ornamental plants and water use issues (affecting the development and maintenance of the urban forest). In addition to providing education to various clientele groups, Dr. Shogren conducts applied research to maximize human health benefits related to horticulture. He has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles

Dr. Shogren grew up in the horticulture industry, working at his parents' wholesale nursery in Southern California. His undergraduate studies focused on plant production at the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, where he received degrees in environmental horticulture and agricultural business. He then went on to receive his doctorate in entomology from the University of California, Riverside, where his research focused on integrated pest management of invasive thrips.

Dr. Shogren's current research is on management of insects, diseases and weeds in horticulture production systems, and the urban forest. Other research interests include biological control of exotic pests and increasing water-use efficiencies in landscapes, nurseries, golf courses and municipalities.
