The Nutrition, Family and Consumer Sciences Advisor (NFCS) will conduct a multi-county-based extension, education and applied research program to develop, implement, evaluate, strengthen and expand NFCS programming with priority on low income families, individuals, as well as health and human service professionals in three counties (San Mateo, San Francisco and Santa Clara).

  1. Focus on low-income and economic urban disparities related to food and food systems, nutrition education and relationships between food system and environmental health for optimal nutrition and health outcomes;
  2. Lead two large USDA contracts: the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) and CalFresh Healthy Living, UC Nutrition Education Program across three counties;
  3. An opportunity to lead academic oversight of the UCCE Master Food Preserver program in San Mateo County;
  4. An opportunity to develop new programs to enhance and expand the current nutrition education elements at Elkus Ranch and to involve new audiences that include substantial fractions of under-served and food-insecure communities.

Education: A minimum of a Master's degree in Nutrition, Health Education, Public Health, Food Systems or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment.  Some coursework in Statistics, Research Methodology, Evaluation, Survey Design and/ or Program Management preferred.

Additional Requirements: A background investigation will be required for the successful candidate, including fingerprinting and a criminal history clearance by the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
