The University of California's Renewable Resources Extension Act Program is soliciting proposals that would utilize the services and talents of student interns during the summer of 2011. Internships are open to undergraduate or graduate students from any institution of higher education in California, particularly UC and CSU.
Principal investigators will not be granted additional RREA funds to pay for supplemental costs associated with the project. Student interns are expected to work 40 hours/week on projects or activities that address educational and extension needs in the management of California's renewable resources. Interns will be funded up to $6,000. Intern proposals must demonstrate the connection to Cooperative Extension (county or campus office).

Lindcove Research & Extension Center, located in the foothills of Tulare County, has land and facilities available for 2011/2012 research projects.
Projects are reviewed and approved by a Research Advisory Committee. While LREC is primarily a citrus research center, other crops are welcome. Resources include:
- 3.0 acres (Field 31)
- 2.5 acres (Field 64E)
- 0.9 acres (Field 91C)
- Three Valencia strains on 2 rootstocks (Field 11), 2 acres, planted 1993
- Six navel strains on 4 rootstocks (Field 91E), 2.5 acres, planted 2003
- Atwood navels on 21 rootstocks (Field 13), 3.25 acres, planted 1986
- Lane late navels on 30 rootstocks (Field 54NW), 2.25 acres, planted 1990
A new line is scheduled to be installed during summer 2011 that will greatly expand the parameters that can be measured. Three cold storage rooms holding 60 fruit bins each, two walk-in cold boxes and de-greening rooms.

If you plan on applying for the ANR Competitive Grants Program, the deadline for submitting letters of intent is Tuesday, March 15.
For more information on submitting letters of intent, log into your ANR Portal and locate the Universal Review System in the lower right of the portal. Under “Open Systems,” click on “ANR Competitive Grants.” The full RFP is under “System Documents” on the right.

Kearney Research and Extension Center is soliciting proposals for new research and demonstration projects for the period Nov. 1, 2010, through Oct. 31, 2011.
Located near Fresno in the San Joaquin Valley, Kearney has 330 acres suitable for many types of tree, vine, and row crops.
Kearney also has some of the most extensive specialized research facilities of any off-campus location within UC. These are suitable for greenhouse, postharvest, sample handling (including cold storage and drying), sensory evaluation, and assorted laboratory research activities.

The Trust provides direct funding as well as land, labor, and facilities at the Hansen Agricultural Center for projects that facilitate progress in achieving the goals of the Trust:
While it is not necessary for projects to be conducted in the county, it should be evident that the project addresses relevant needs of Ventura County.
