Kay Antunez explores fall colors with a group of young naturalists in Northern California....PLT style!!!
Using Activity 78, Signs of Fall, from PLT’s PreK-8 Environmental Education Activity Guide students learned about fall colors and why we observe the beautiful tell tale signs of fall every year. In this activity, students discovered visible and invisible changes in autumn leaves, observed the annual change of seasons, and investigated why leaves of deciduous trees change color.

After the busy FIT season, one wonders just how much more we can 'fit' into a summer...
The highlights of August included CA PLT folks gathering together for our summer regional VIP meetings. We shared some great PLT stories and updates, engaged in conversation about the new directions and vision of the National PLT team, and exercised some forward thinking about how to meet the upcoming needs of environmental educators- with PLT power!
The Environmental Nature Center in Newport Beach http://encenter.org/ hosted a group of 19 PLT movers and shakers and we had a great meeting of the minds!Soon after this first gathering, two more regional PLT meetings were held in Davis and Palo Alto. Again, the gathering of PLT educators, even tho smaller in number than our SoCal meeting, were dedicated to strengthening PLT programs across the State and in their local EE communities. Thank you all who were able to take the time-- and more regionals will be scheduled for January and February.

Thank you to all of the specialists, educators, teachers, and foresters that helped to engage us in what F.I.T. is all about! We had a full week of presentations, engaging activities, and interactive discussions-- all focused on real issues facing one of our most essential natural resources- our forests. How do we ensure the sustainable management of our Nations forests? By educating ourselves and others!
I look forward to hearing about the great ideas, activities, and projects that will be generated by this inspiring week. Let me know how I can help!
