Avian Influenza
6 pm, October 23rd, 2015
4-H Center in Rohnert Park
Join Dr. Maurice Pitesky from University of California, Davis and Dr. Dan Famini from the SRJC Agriculture Department as we discuss:
What is Avian Influenza?
How can I protect my birds from this disease?
How should I respond if I suspect I have a diseased bird?
What help is available to control Avian Influenza?
How can I keep informed of what is happening in our area?
What happens if there is an Avian Influenza diagnosis?
Plus any other questions you may have.
Meet local poultry and egg producers of all sizes to network and discuss how we can work together to keep our flocks healthy.
Last Avian Influenza season the virus is known to have entered California poultry via migrating birds.
This virus has deadly effects on individual flocks with over 95% mortality within 3 days of clinical signs.
Furthermore, this disease can be devastating consequences for all poultry farmers within several miles of any confirmed case. In 2015 over 40,000,000 birds in the U.S. were depopulated (killed) to control this disease.
This winter more wild birds will bring Avian Influenza with them and we hope to help prevent a disaster in Sonoma County poultry.
This is a free event. Refreshments will be provided.
RSVPs appreciated but not required.
