Fresno Unified will be rolling out a new project this year that will impact each of its elementary schools: The OrganWise Guys. Nath Say, UC CalFresh Program Supervisor, presented information on The Organ Wise Guys to Fresno Unified staff, detailing key messages and resources schools can use. UC CalFresh educators will be encouraging teachers who want to further their students' nutrition education to check out their school's OrganWise Guys Doll Kit.

This year, UC CalFresh and Fresno Unified will be working together to implement the Smarter Lunchrooms Movement in 22 elementary schools. UC CalFresh's main focus will be to assist with new visuals, such as posters and menu boards, which will enhance the lunchroom environment and encourage students to choose and consume healthier foods. UC CalFresh Educators will also serve as resources for schools who want to build a healthier lunchroom and school environment.

This October, Rowell Elementary's cook, Amal Avedian, wore her OrganWise Guys apron in the cafeteria to reinforce nutrition education with students!
Students familiar with the OrganWise Guys were excited to spot the lovable organs and MyPlate pictures as they picked up their lunch. The apron was a great way to reinforce the OrganWise Guys' key messages of eating high fiber foods, drinking low-fat milk and lots of water, and getting plenty of exercise. Thank you for your collaboration, Amal! Together we are building smarter lunchrooms.

The OrganWise Guys and the "Wheel-O-Health" took center stage at Rowell Elementary's back to school night.
Many students gathered around to spin the wheel and participate in a fun physical activity while UCCalFresh coordinators spoke with parents.
The display was a great way to introduce parents to the OrganWise Guys curriculum that will be used in Pre-K through second grade classrooms at Rowell elementary. We look forward to working with families again this school year to improve health and wellness in Fresno County.

We are excited that the OrganWise Guys will make their third appearance this upcoming school year at Olmos and Rowell Elementary Schools!
In addition to our UC curriculum, the OrganWise Guys curriculum teaches children of all ages to care of their body from the inside out by bringing organ characters to life using plush dolls.
At the end of each year, students display the knowledge of each character that they have gained.
We look forward to another great year with the OrganWise Guys!
