DAVIS--The buzz is out—Extension apiculturist Eric Mussen will be performing with other members of the Frankie Fox “Doo Wop” singing class at a free program on Tuesday, March 15 in the Davis Art Center, 1919 F St., Davis.
The informal program, open to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m. and will include about a dozen hit tunes from the ‘50s and ‘60s, including “Dedicated to the One I Love,” “Silhouettes,” “Teenager in Love,” “Lollipop,” “Sha-Boom,” "To Know Him Is to Love Him,” and “Barbara Ann.”
“Students attend Frank’s classes to learn a bit about music theory, to practice three-part harmony, and to enjoy the opportunity to sing familiar, old, favorite tunes with like-minded participants,” said Mussen, a member of the UC Davis Department of Entomology since 1976.
The singling class includes about 15 members.
A "posse" from the UC Davis Department of Entomology is expected to attend the show. This is the end of the 10-week class.
Fox was formerly with Vito and the Salutations, a 1961-65 New York doo-wop group best known for “Gloria” and “Unchained Melody.” The group’s doo wop version of “Unchained Melody” is included in several movies, including the 1990 film, Goodfellas, directed by Martin Scorsese.
Vito and the Salutations included lead singer Vito Balsamo; lead/first tenor Randy Silverman; first/second tenor Shelly Buchanksy; baritone Lenny Citrin and Frankie Fox, bass.
