DAVIS--Extension apiculturist Eric Mussen, UC Davis Department of Entomology faculty, discussed colony collapse disorder at an interview Sunday, Jan. 9 with a radio station in Argentina .
Journalist Federico Petrera interviewed him at 1 a.m. (Pacific Time).
Mussen mentioned that colony collapse disorder (CCD), a mysterious phenomenon characterized by adult bees abandoning the hive, may be due to a combination of factors, including pesticides, diseases, pests, stress and malnutrition. A new—and as yet undiscovered—virus may be involved, too, he said.
Mussen is a friend of Arthuro Hatrick, whose company, Apitrack, has an apiary website (ApiNews) in Argentina.
