In November 2013 a short report was published by Bovine Veterinarian that addressed the topic of Antibiotic Resistance. This report shared information from a symposium that was held in Kansas City, MO, "Bridging the Gap Between Animal Health and Human Health." The published report did a good job of condensing three days of information into 11 key points. The report can be viewed at:
Some of the key points that came out of the meeting were:
1) "If you think you understand antimicrobial resistance, it hasn't been explained properly."
2) "Antimicrobial resistance is a naturally occurring phenomenon that is present with or without the use of antimicrobials"
3) "Antibiotic resistance is not just transferred from animals to humans; resistance is also transferred from human to animals."
