This year we received more than 70 applications for this scholarship! Many qualified and deserving individuals applied, including Lyna Pith from Cambodia, this year's scholarship recipient. Pith graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Agronomy Science from the Royal University of Agriculture in 2006. She went on in 2012 to participate in a rice post-production course in the Philippines, which provided her with knowledge of how to improve upon rice quality while reducing loss. Pith's short term goals include pursuing higher education in the horticulture field to broaden her “knowledge and understanding in technical and practical skills” in postharvest management. Pith hopes to one day be able to “impart and share her knowledge” as a horticultural specialist to others in her country, especially Cambodian farmers and agronomists, with the goal of providing them greater economic opportunities.
We at the UC Davis Postharvest Technology Center would like to extend our congratulations to Lyna Pith. We hope this year's Short Course will provide invaluable information to aid Pith in her future education and career. Thank you to all who applied for this year's scholarship!
