The County I & R committee thanks you in advance!

Again this year, the office is supplying “Welcome Bags” for your new members. Please contact Jesenia with the number you need. Do your best to be accurate. They will be available at the October CCC meeting at the 4-H office
Interested in the "Twistee" Community Service Project?
For those of you who are new, the "Twistee" project is a Community Service that the 4-H program conducts each fall for the Starcross community. It is very simple, repetitive and all ages can work on it at your club meeting. It involves tying a twistee onto a flier. That's it! We have 4000 to do in one month. Please let me know if you are interested and I will provide them at the October CCC meeting.
Wildlife Project – please announce at your club meeting
Meeting: 9/28, 4-5:30 at 4-H Office
The County Wildlife Project will explore the Natural Connections in food webs. We will investigate the relationships between plants and animals and how they fit into food chains and food webs and how they affect the balance of life. The studies will be divided up into several Sonoma County habitats such as woodlands, cultivated lands, wet lands and ranch lands. The project is open to any member who loves the outdoors and nature and wants to know more about the pieces and parts and how they work together. The first meeting will be at the 4-H Office on Sept. 28 from 4:00 - 5:30. Please contact project advisor Mary Engebreth maryengebreth@comcast.net for more information.
Y'all Come!!! – please announce at your club meeting
The California State 4-H Leaders' Forum Connect the Dots will be held on Nov. 11 - 13, 2016 right in our own backyard at the Flamingo Resort and Spa. Registration is $200 for the entire weekend and includes 5 meals, access to workshops and activities. There are several guest speakers focusing on a wide range of topics. The list of workshops is very comprehensive and will give you much information to take back to your clubs and projects. You will meet 4-H volunteers from around the state to further your network of valuable resources. Should you wish to come just for Saturday, when the workshops are happening, the cost is $125 for the day and includes 3 meals and two speakers. Please see the Forum website to register and for more information. Should you wish to spend the weekend at the hotel please contact them directly and ask for the 4-H Leaders' Forum discount. That may or may not still be in effect after this week.
Volunteer at/Donate to the State Leaders' Forum – please announce at your club meeting
If you are interested in working on the event that weekend we could sure use some assistance whether you attend or not.
Would you be willing to be part of a courtesy shuttle to bring delegates to/from the airport to the hotel on Friday and/or Sunday?
Would you be willing to donate food or beverages for the Hospitality Room?
Would you be willing to donate items for the silent auction? We especially request handmade items, particularly done by 4-Hers. For instance, the County Goat project is donating a basket of goat products. The County Wildlife project is donating an owl box and related items. What can you think to donate from your club or project?
Pickup of any donated items can be arranged. Just let us know. If you have questions, suggestions or want to volunteer please contact Mary Engebreth slf2016info@gmail.com or 707 996 2981.
Many thanks for considering this request.

Youth in Action Award
The Youth in Action Award honors four 4‑H'ers who have gained critical life skills through their 4‑H experience and have utilized those skills to overcome a challenge, or challenges, they have faced. Each of the honorees are outstanding 4‑H'ers who epitomize 4‑H youth empowerment and leadership.
In addition, the winners have demonstrated the positive impact they've made with their family, peers and community through their 4‑H experiences.
The 2017 awards will highlight youth in each of our core areas. Through a formal selection process, one awardee will be chosen within each pillar area:
- Youth in Action: Agriculture
- Youth in Action: Citizenship
- Youth in Action: Healthy Living
- Youth in Action: STEM
One national Youth in Action Award 2017 winner will be selected from the four pillar winners.
The YIA Awards are presented at National 4‑H Council's Legacy Awards. The 8th annual Legacy Awards will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, in Washington D.C.
Each YIA pillar winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship for higher education, be featured as the 4‑H Youth Spokesperson for their pillar area and an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. to be recognized at National 4‑H Council's Legacy Awards.
2017 Youth in Action Guidelines
Good afternoon,
I manage an adult day program at Catholic Charities for seniors with dementia, and we would love the opportunity to connect with a local 4-h club that would want to bring their animals to our seniors as a fun informational day. We would love to be able to do this every once in a while. This would be such an amazing opportunity for our seniors as well as for the kids in 4-h. Please let me know if this is something you would be able to assist me with.
Thank you,
Lindsey Hazlewood-Schmidt
