Thank you so much for this vivid and insightful article. I came back from a walk with my dog this evening, slipped off my shoes (now barefoot) and proceeded to the kitchen to get us both some water. I was sure I had stepped on glass when I felt sudden sharp pain on my second toe of my right foot. The immediate sting occurred between my big toe and my second toe. What could've caused it? Low and behold a dead bee lays on the floor. Uncanny! But also Ouch, Ouch, Ouch! (Still hurts as I type this). Since I have been searching the Internet for a reason how and why this is possible. I appreciate your description because we shared the same sentiment but I was just probably more confused (didn't know what a scrub jay was - guessed it was a bird with an eclectic diet.. or OCD). One as much is I love Google--these Wikipedia results just don't do it for me when I'm home alone (minus dog) and stung for the first time in 32 years by a dead bee (or a live/excised one for that matter). I found solace reading this post. Thanks again!

July 1, 2018, just been stung in the hand by a barb minus its bee that was on the book (I had gone into into the garden to bring in). Your article was very helpful in convincing me I wasn't imagining it. I am very allergic to wasp stings and just ending treatment for one that occurred last week. Hope there is enough med in my system to stop the hand flaring up too. Thank you. Kind regards.

We recently had a bee hice removed from a wall cavity of our house. There are many dead bees around and we are cleaning them up. How long will their stingers still be poisonous?

Thank you for your experience update. As an anaphylactic reactor to bees stings, this is wonderful to know. My DD is also allergic and this will help us in the future with her and mine allergies. Again thank you for this helpful information!
