As a lowly Small Farms Advisor, I frequent interacted with Dr Rick Stafford for about 12 months. I didn't know much about the extent of his program but appreciated the man who was the new AVP. Rick brought qualities to UCCE that few people ever did, if ever. More than knowledge, technical skills, and intelligence, he exercised humility, self deprecation and incredible and genuine interest (I have ever witnessed in our leadership) in people--especially advisors--and their programmatic interests and strengths. During a stint at the Personnel committee, I witnessed an incredible memory and understanding of individual programmatic penchant, scope, and needs. In selecting suitable ad-hoc Committee members, Rick displayed a unique insight into each candidate for advancement and best suited corresponding committee, with no paper in hand. More impressive than his knowledge of the people and their program, was his effort to acquaint himself and learn about what made each candidate different. In my humble opinion, he was the most trusted UCCE leader I've known in over 30 years. This for me overshadows any other honors Rick so deservedly earned. All the best on the next chapter in your journey Rick and many blessings. Aziz.
