Congratulations to Vernard for being a dedicated public servant and role model! I have a feeling that he will continue in those roles even in retirement from his "day job".

Vernard: Best personal wishes in retirement, and congratulations after a distinguished career. I have fond memories of our bed bug project in San Diego. Even though I was a newcomer to the industry and profession, you took the time to work with me and my company; mentor us; make professional recommendations, and share that incredible sense of humor. As we say in the navy; Fair Winds and Following Seas shipmate. Best. Cam Gray.

I have only known Vernard for five years, but in that short time he has taught me a lot, not only about urban entomology and IPM, but also about family, honor, respect, humor, and our evolving American culture. I am lucky and proud to have worked with him directly on a number of collaborative research and extension projects. I hope Vernard enjoys himself in retirement (I know he will). Maybe, if my luck holds, I can continue to learn from him in this next chapter of his life. Congratulations!

Hey, Vernard! Congratulations! Retirement can be a lot of fun, but I guess I haven't had much yet, since I have kept doing something ever since i "retired" 5 years ago. Right now I am Interim Chair of the Department of African American and African Studies here at UCD, but I'm sure you will make more sensible choices. Enjoy!
