"Sudden oak death hypothetically could harm young seedlings, but we have not seen this in Christmas trees or in a wildland setting yet," says Yana Valachovic, UC Cooperative Extension forest advisor. "It does cause branch tip dieback that can affect growth overtime in small trees, but for the most part SOD is not an issue with larger Douglas-fir trees."
