Hi Mallika, As a fellow Master Gardener (Merced Co.) welcome to California. I'm interested in silver solutions for urban dwellers, who although using only about 10% of CA waters, spend excessive amounts of water on landscapes especially turfgrass. How to optimize irrigation among urban stakeholders is a challenge I hope we can all work on. Stan

Dear Stan,
Wonderful to "meet" a fellow Master Gardener! Yes, you bring up great questions about managing water use in urban landscapes! One of the things I like about the MG community is the diverse ways in which they use water to grow food, stormwater remediating plants, and other beneficial plants outside of turf. Keep up the great work you are doing in Merced!

Though I focus most of my work on rural, agricultural landscapes, I know that Amir Haghverdi (http://www.ucrwater.com) does some exciting work on water conservation in urban landscapes. Cheers, Mallika
