Plans are underway for the 2012 Small Farm Conference. The conference will be held in Valencia (Los Angeles County) March 4-6.
The theme of the 2012 conference is “Cultivating the next generation”. Workshops and field courses will be posted in October.
A scholarship program is in place for those with limited financial means. Scholarship categories are:
- Farmers/Ranchers/Farm or Ranch Employees
- Managers of Certified Farmers’ Markets
- Agricultural Students currently studying agriculture or related field (This category also includes those learning the agricultural trade through vocational or other education programs.)

The 2011 California Small Farm Conference will be held March 6, 7 and 8 in San Jose.

CAPCA is a professional organization of licensed agriculture and horticulture pest control advisors. The Ventura County Chapter of the California Association of Pest Control Advisors (CAPCA) has two separate local Scholarship Opportunities: one 4-Year University Scholarship and one Community College Scholarship.
The 4-Year University Scholarship is intended for the benefit of upper division students pursuing a career in the agriculture and/or horticulture fields. Ventura CAPCA will give a $1,000.00 scholarship to a Ventura County resident enrolled in a 4-year California College or university offering studies in Agriculture or Horticulture.
The Community College Scholarship is intended for the benefit of lower division students pursuing a career in agriculture and/or horticulture field. Ventura CAPCA will give a $500.00 scholarship to a Ventura County resident enrolled in a Ventura or Santa Barbara County Community College offering studies in the field of agriculture or horticulture.
The deadline for applications for both scholarship opportunities is June 4th, 2010.

From our local chapter of CWA
The Ventura County Chapter of the California Women for Agriculture (CWA) strives to promote agriculture awareness and education within our communities. As a result of this effort, we are seeking candidates to apply for our scholarships which will be awarded in June 2010.
A total of $2,500 in scholarships will be awarded this year. The top scholarship will be $1,000 and the remainder will range from $250 and higher.
Requirements for scholarship applicants must include one of the following:
- Student and/or a parent/guardian have been employed in Ventura County agriculture for the past two (2) years. (Farm laborer, work for an ag-related industry, i.e.; chemical company, packinghouse, well drilling, etc.)
- Student at least a one year member, in good standing, in FFA, 4-H or Grange.
- Student pursuing a Bachelor's degree (4-year), an Associate's degree (2-year) or a degree from an accredited trade school, all in agriculture or related subject areas.
Finalists may be required to meet with the CWA Scholarship Committee for an interview. The completed 2-page application, recommendation form(s) and transcripts must be postmarked no later than Friday, April 30th.

The 2010 California Small Farm Conference will be held from February 28 to March 2 in San Diego. This year’s theme is, Sustaining our Bounty.
The organizers recognize that small farmers are often the leaders and innovators in our state’s agricultural system. The conference will showcase ideas for these growers to “sustain the progress they have made and find opportunities to continue to diversify, grow, improve and expand their operations”.
