Photo Information | Focusing on California Native plants in a shady garden can be challenging, but this Asarum caudata is very happy here. The flower is almost Halloweenish. |

Description | Native wild ginger has adapted nicely to the areas of total shade in my garden. I took this photo this past early, early spring when the small flowers bloom under the large heart shaped leaves. I always take it as a compliment when plants self-sow and this one is going like crazy, in between rocks in the wall and beyond. The first time I saw one of these flowers, I thought it was some sort of insect, albeit a very large one! |
