Photo Information The Kestrel is a bird of prey belonging to the kestrel group of the falcon family Falconidae. Kestrels are friends to the gardener because they eat almost exclusively mouse-sized mammals. Voles, shrews and true mice. Go get 'em Ms. Kestrel!

Description A unique hunting aspect of this species is the ability to see near ultraviolet light, allowing the birds to detect the urine trails around rodent burrows.
