Description	This photo was taken in the parkway in front of my house in Orange, California on June 30, 2017. The big, bold, gold blooms of Rudbeckia hirta, 'Indian Summer', are the embodiment of the exuberant June garden. Before becoming a UC Master Gardener, I was a U-Md Master Gardener in Montgomery County, Maryland. The Black-eyed Susan is the state flower of Maryland, and grows freely by the side of the road. I love having a bit of Maryland here in California, along with the California poppies I also grow beside the road.
