Goal: To introduce web mapping technology to natural resource practitioners and Cooperative Extension educators with hands on experience focused on practical examples.
Workshop Content: This workshop has been designed for participants interested in web mapping with little to no GIS or web experience, and will include practical exercises for you to begin developing your own web maps with a Google Maps API. An initial presentation will provide an overview of practical web mapping applications. You will then follow an interactive exercise that will have you creating basic web maps using JavaScripts, Google Fusion Tables, and CartoDB software.This courses content is the result of a collaborative effort between UC ANR IGIS Statewide Program, http://igis.ucanr.edu, and the UC Berkeley, Geospatial Innovation Facility (GIF),

Audience: Public and private resource professionals as well as UC Cooperative Extension Advisors and Specialists.
Requirement: Participants must bring a laptop computer with a recent version Notepad ++ software installed on it. Participants also must have an active Google account with access to Google Drive, and an online account with CartoDB.

Google Fusion Tables: If you do not already have a Google account, you can sign up for one at Click Here.
Once signed in, go to Google Drive at Click Here and then click the “Create” or “New” button in the upper left hand corner and choose "Fusion Table" (Note that you may need to select Fusion Tables from the “Connect more apps” if it is not already in your list of available tools).
CartoDB: If you don’t already have an account, go to

Cost: $30 for members of UC ANR (account # and contact information required), and $60 for non-UC affiliates.
The course cost will include catered snacks and refreshments. UC affiliate costs are covered through the IGIS Statewide Program.
