Soil Quality and Nutrient Management
Welcome Soil Quality and Nutrient Management Advisor, Joy Hollingsworth!
UCCE has hired a new Soil Quality and Nutrient Management Advisor to serve Fresno, Madera, Kings and Tulare counties. Joy Hollingsworth has a unique position which is co-funded by the USDA-NRCS. In addition to conducting a research and extension program, she will also be providing technical support to the NRCS.
Joy is a San Joaquin Valley native who earned a B.A. in Communication from UC Davis, and a M.S. in Plant Science from Fresno State. Prior to her Farm Advisor appointment with UCCE, Joy spent six years working for the University of California in two other roles. As a research assistant at UC Davis and the UC Kearney Agricultural Research and Extension Center, she worked on a variety of agronomic cropping trials. In her new role as farm advisor she looks forward to working with growers, consultants, allied industry and government agencies to address soil and nutrient management challenges in the San Joaquin Valley.
About My Program
As a farm advisor, my job is to conduct research, and to provide practical, science-based information to growers and consultants. My background is in agronomic crops, but I'm interested in other types of crops as well, and I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues on future research projects. My fellow Soil Quality and Nutrient Management Advisor, Anthony Fulford, and I co-write a quarterly newsletter, which you can find, and subscribe to, here on the site. Like me, Anthony is co-funded by USDA-NRCS and together we are working towards strengthening the partnership between our two organizations.
